Obseria as a Dash0 alternative: the short answer

Dash0 and Obseria are closer to each other than most pairs of observability vendors. Both are built on OpenTelemetry rather than adapting to it, both store all signals in a shared data layer, both offer PromQL and SQL, and both bill per signal instead of per host or seat. If you are evaluating a Dash0 alternative, pricing will rarely be the deciding factor, because the public list prices are the same. The useful questions are where your data can live, which certifications your auditors expect, how the AI works and how much of the product catalog you need. This comparison is based on Dash0's public pricing page, security page and website as of October 2026.

Pricing: the same model and comparable list prices

We want to be direct about this. According to Dash0's pricing page, Dash0 charges $0.060 per million spans, log records and web events ingested and $0.540 per million stored, and $0.020 and $0.180 per million metric data points ingested and stored. Synthetic API check runs are billed per thousand, Agent0 credits cost $0.60 each and AI SDLC Insights is priced per user per month. Retention is 30 days for spans, logs and web events and 13 months for metrics and synthetics. Ingestion is billed on everything received, storage only on what is kept after filtering, and new accounts get a 14-day trial without a credit card.

Obseria's public list prices are identical:

  • Logs, spans and RUM web events: $0.060 per million ingested and $0.540 per million stored, with 30-day retention.
  • Metric data points: $0.020 per million ingested and $0.180 per million stored, with 13-month retention.
  • Synthetic API check runs: $0.20 per thousand; agent credits: $0.60 per credit; AI Code Insights: $10 per user per month.
  • Filtered data only costs ingestion; unlimited users; 14-day trial without a credit card.

In other words, for the same telemetry volume and retention the list price will be comparable on both platforms. Actual invoices depend on volume discounts, commitments, how much you filter and how many AI credits investigations consume, so it is worth comparing a real quote. Dash0 also publishes volume tiers for very large ingest and storage volumes and is available through cloud marketplaces, which can matter if you want usage to count against committed cloud spend.

Data residency and hosting options

This is one of the clearest differences. According to Dash0's security page, it runs on AWS and Google Cloud and lets customers choose an EU or US data residency region, with EU customers able to keep telemetry storage in the EU.

Obseria offers three options: the EU (Frankfurt, Dublin), the UK (London) or your own cloud account (BYOC). A UK region matters for organizations with UK-specific requirements, and BYOC lets you keep telemetry inside your own cloud account and security perimeter while Obseria operates the platform. Obseria does not currently offer a US region, so teams that must store data in the US will find Dash0's US region a better match.

When you compare, look beyond the storage location to where processing, AI inference and support access take place. Both vendors describe their rules publicly, but for a data protection impact assessment you should still compare the data processing agreements and subprocessor lists in detail.

Certifications and compliance

Dash0's security page lists SOC 2 Type II and HIPAA, with Business Associate Agreements available, and names ISO 27001 and PCI DSS as planned certifications. Dash0 also states that Agent0 runs under zero data retention agreements with its model providers and that customer data is not used for training.

Obseria is certified to ISO 27001, ISO 27017, ISO 27018 and SOC 2 Type II, holds BSI C5 for the EU region and TISAX, and supports DORA, NIS2 and GDPR requirements. Platform controls include automatic PII masking, field-level access, audit logs and a 99.95% SLA, and customer data is never used for AI training. For German public-sector suppliers, financial services under DORA or automotive suppliers that require TISAX, these certifications are often a procurement prerequisite rather than a nice-to-have. If your requirement is HIPAA, Dash0 currently documents it and Obseria's fact base does not.

AI capabilities

Dash0 positions Agent0 as an autonomous production AI built into the platform. According to Dash0, simple tasks consume a fraction of a credit, while complex tasks such as root-cause analysis or generating a pull request use one to two credits. Dash0's website lists capabilities such as live insights, root-cause analysis, automated fixes and automations, some of which are marked as coming soon.

Obseria Intelligence combines causal, predictive and generative AI. Agentic root-cause investigations traverse Obseria TopoGraph, the automatically discovered topology of apps and infrastructure, together with all signals in Obseria Lake, and return a chain of evidence that engineers can check step by step. Because both vendors charge the same per credit, compare how many credits a typical investigation takes on your own incidents and how verifiable the result is.

Platform scope and data model

Dash0 covers infrastructure and Kubernetes monitoring, APM and tracing, log management, web monitoring, synthetics, dashboards, alerting and SLOs, with dashboards and rules manageable as code. Its focus on a lean, OpenTelemetry-first experience is a deliberate strength.

Obseria covers these areas and adds Application Security (runtime vulnerability analytics and runtime protection), Business Observability, AI Observability for LLMs, agents and RAG, mobile app monitoring, session replay, continuous profiling with under 1% overhead and workflow automation as code. Data lands in Obseria Lake, an index-free lakehouse with schema-on-read and field-level privacy, and Obseria Pipeline filters, enriches and masks PII at ingest. Next to PromQL and SQL, Obseria offers OQL, a pipe-based language across all signals:

fetch logs
| filter service == "payments"
| summarize count(), by:{level}

How to evaluate and migrate

Switching in either direction is straightforward, because both platforms accept OTLP and neither requires proprietary instrumentation. A fair evaluation usually takes two to three weeks:

  1. Dual-ship from your Collector: add Obseria as a second OTLP exporter so both platforms receive identical data.
  2. Rebuild the views that matter: recreate your most-used dashboards and alerts; PromQL queries can often be carried over with little change.
  3. Compare on your own incidents: run the AI investigation in both tools on the same real incident and compare credit usage, accuracy and how easy the result is to verify.

Then weigh the outcome against your hosting and certification requirements, which in this comparison are more likely to decide than price.

Which tool fits you?

Choose Obseria if you

  • You need UK data residency or BYOC in your own cloud account, in addition to EU hosting.
  • Your procurement requires ISO 27017/27018, BSI C5 or TISAX today.
  • You want application security, business observability and AI observability on the same platform.
  • You want topology-aware agentic root-cause analysis and OQL across all signals.

Choose Dash0 if you

  • You need a US data region or HIPAA with a Business Associate Agreement, which Dash0 documents.
  • You prefer a lean, OpenTelemetry-first product focused on core observability and configuration as code.
  • You want to buy through AWS, GCP, Azure or Vercel marketplaces against committed cloud spend.

Switching in three steps

  1. Dual-ship via OTLP. Add Obseria as a second OTLP exporter in your OpenTelemetry Collector and send the same data to both platforms.
  2. Rebuild dashboards and alerts. Recreate PromQL-based dashboards and alerts in Obseria; PromQL queries can often be reused with little change.
  3. Compare a real quote. Since list prices match, compare actual invoices, credit consumption per investigation and hosting requirements.
